Before Jesus ascended to heaven he commissioned his disciples by saying,
“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Matt 28, 18b-20)
We re-echo these words of our Lord in our Parish Mission Statement in a more concrete way:
“We, God's people of St. Paul Catholic Parish in Sacramento, California, a multicultural, inclusive and welcoming community, inspired by the love of Jesus Christ are called:
to bring all people of God together in worship,
to declare our belief in God's love, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and
to celebrate and grow in our relationship with God."
This is our map to realize our identity as a faith community with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As one family, therefore, we share the same core values expected from any baptized Christian. We celebrate the Sacraments actively by making the Holy Eucharist as the center and the summit of our prayer and worship to God. Our worshipping community is open to all who want to share their spiritual experiences as a truly redeemed community. We respect the sanctity of all life and the preferential option for the vulnerable, poor and disenfranchised. We believe in laying out a good foundation of our faith to children, youth and adults in various efforts of evangelization and religious faith formation activities. We take pride of being good stewards of things given to us by God by sharing our Time, Talent and Treasure to pattern our faith community to the first Christian community who shared everything they had.
“The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had everything in common.” (Acts 4, 32)
I hope that our core values strike a chord with you and that you join us as we journey in faith. I encourage you to participate fully in the many ministries, events and activities of our involved parish community. Look through the website, browse through the parish ministry brochures located in the literature racks in the front entrances of the church, talk with our parishioners and discern where your talents and time can best serve our Lord. And, please know that you are always welcome at St. Paul Parish, in our community, and in our faith. If, after browsing through the site, you have questions please call me or the rectory office at 916-381-5200.
